Day 53 - evicted

The last of the chimney is being removed today so we were evicted from the house as they sealed everything up and it will be pretty dusty.

The hallway floor was taken up so they can match the floor levels up.

Day 52 - one day only

After seeing the new ensuite, I just felt it wasn't right and so in the morning we went over it with our builders again. It took over an hour, we even considered a corner toilet but due to the position of our ensuite we were very limited in our options but we ended up reverting back to the original design almost. We had to move a double socket in the end and come out more. I still would have liked it to be tighter.

It's not so harsh and will catch some of the light from the window. It's not perfect but it was better than the first attempt.

I sorted out the hall way, I didn't understand why we needed 3 switches so we now have 2. There's so many little things you have to consider.

Downstairs is getting insulated and tacked, tomorrow will be the kitchen and a new steel beam...

Day 51 - the ensuite

We can now see the space cleared by yesterday's demolition, today the walls will go up.

Again this is where my vision and what goes up don't relate, we might have to make changes once you see how it works against the rest of the room....better now before its too late.

There were some electrical work done today which I'm not too sure about...

Stay calm......

Day 50 - csi

Today was the day of the ensuite, our bedroom was taped up and sealed ready for demolition work.

Our bedroom Looked like it was out of those crime shows. One of the wardrobe was dismantled and moved into the new rooms. It was going to be dusty and dirty work so we left them to it and went out.

Day 49 - dusty

It was the day after the storm as in only 2 people here and was relatively a quiet day. They insulated and boarded the corridor and room.

It's still very dusty in there so can't spend too long in there.

The plaster is drying nicely and you can see the change of colour.

As it was raining there was no work done outside apart from tiding the edge above the bifold.

Day 48 - busy busy

Today was a busy day, at one point there were 8 people on site!

The glass were fitted to the windows today meaning the top floor could be boarded up and made secured even though the tile creasing and inside cill needed to be added.

You can now access the upstairs via the main house and they have put up stud work on the second bedroom.

The new part was plastered so its nearly complete bar some adjustments such as skirting, electrics etc.

The ouside is being prepped for the pebble dashing.

So it's all getting there!

Day 47 - breaking in

Today was the day that the old and the new met as we have now broken in through the second room.

Hopefully in the next few data we can start walking across without having to go up a ladder.

At the moment the room is sealed from the other side.

The window frame was installed and will have the glass put in tomorrow.

The front porch was also tiled.

Day 46 - money, money, money

The roof at the back of the house has been tiled which means that the inside can have electric cables run through and insulated.

Do you think we made the right choice by going to a different colour of tiles?

We hit a problem with the flashing kit for the velux, I'm learning a lot on this job and I know why not a lot of people do this as it can be stressful. Who knew that pitch and tile width along with window size was so important.

The electrician came to finish some of the wiring downstairs, again we kinda left it to the last minute to spot things as you have there isn't any room for negotiation after the fact. Yes if you change the scope you will have to pay more so the moral is to think ahead if you can.

The porch way is taking shape, and you should be able to stand under there and not get wet if it rains.

Looks like the first knock through will happen tomorrow, scary but exciting as i will have access to the new upstairs.

Day 45 - the pitched roof

Work began on the back roof to secure it so they can start plastering once the windows are in.

We can now see the black slate effects and what the velux looks like.

Work on the porch began.

Upstairs is ready for plastering.

Day 44 - 'b' day

Today the new boiler goes in...it's a big job and early start for us.

I'm not sad to see the end of our existing boiler, it has served us well but it was time to move on to a combi. We even got, power flush, inhibitor and magnaclean.

At one point we had 6 people on site, 2 plumbers, 2 builders and 2 scaffolders...busy and cold as we had to drain the cylinder, shut the water and gas.

The floor boards in the bedroom had to be take up and quite interesting to see the workings of the house. It was a busy day and still not fully finished. Running the boiler off a simple thermostat until we get our digital programable one installed.

Looks like we have to upgrade our gas pipes, so more money needs to be allocated. The upside is the water pressure, so much better upstairs. Need to check out what this new boiler can do now, sad I know but hey ho.

Day 43 - finishing the roof

Work continued on the first floor with the rooms getting its layout as the walls are put up.

The edging on the roof completes the roof and gives its character.
