Day 42 - deliveries

I didn't speak to the builders at all today as the current situation stands they are all out of site either on the roof or first floor, though I can hear them.

2 major deliveries happened today, the velux and frosted door arrived..yay

The frosted door is still quite see through so we got to make sure all the ensuite pieces are well placed...

Day 41 - tiles

The new tiles seem to match the existing ones pretty well for that old distressed look. A big difference from yesterday.

As the build goes on, I've learnt a lot of things which if I ever want to build again I will know.

Looking at a drawing compared to seeing it built is completely different. I have to confess and say the top roof and 1st floor was not how I would have imagined it with the windows jutting out. We also have no loft space at all due to the constuction of the roof. I think you always view things in 2d...(of course there's nothing to be done but just an observation)

Well it's a lesson learnt.

Day 40 - rats?

It's not what you think, weather was miserable today so stayed in. I could hear lots of sounds but couldn't see anything.

A lot of people, 5 in total were here today, 3 on the roof and 2 on the first floor insulating the roof.

We had 2 big deliveries, plaster boards and tiles and its a big push now to sort out the new bit before they break into the existing house.

We have finally got some tiles on the roof!

Day 39 - the electrics

Yesterday was spent "doing our homework" ready for the electrician to come in to do the wiring for the new section.

We marked out, lights, sockets and switches.

It's actually very hard as you have to imagine how you are going to use the space so practically every wall has a socket...overkill?

Day 38 - plumbing work begins

The plumber was around on Saturday to fit the new section of house with pipes for, underfloor heating, hot and cold feeds for the downstairs w/c and upstairs radiators.

He will connect it up at a later date.

Day 37 - front door frame

The bifolds and velux have now been ordered, so that's great news after trying to sort out sizes and cills.

The opening for the bifold opening has to be altered, so a slight extra cost incurred there. :(

Today we also looked at the doors for our cupboard in the hall, not much choice in the diy stores, Louvre doors were an option but are too expensive so we are either going to buy it online or from howdens.

Day 36 - bedrooms

Work continued on the internal frames, having decided on a bigger wc, the frames for downstairs hallway was built as well as the housing for velux.

The building inspector came round and passed the roof works, so great news.

The electrician popped round to look at the old consumer unit and we have some homework this weekend to mark out the sockets and lights.

Unexpectedly the masonry upstairs was stripped back which is goof for us since it means the walls won't stick out as much.
